Werebuild.eu coordinates most of their projects through at set of IRC channels. The reasons are mainly practical. The Internet Relay Chat makes possible for a large number of people to work together and act simultaneously on a global level. It is also a very social way of communicating, allowing internauts to be friends over great distances.
This page contains lists of our work channels, tutorials for how to use IRC and some general rules and guidelines. We encourage you to join our chat rooms!

Getting started
IRC is an old protocol that has been used for internet activism since the very start in the late eighties. A general way of thinking about IRC is that you are connected to servers and on each server there are channels. For example, the Werebuild clusters have chosen to open most of their channels on the server irc.telecomix.org, and the first channel was called #telekompaketet.
To use IRC you need a client application. Of course there is a huge variety of applications ready for free download. We recommend that you use Chatzilla, MiRC or irssi (for advanced users). By clicking on the links, you will be directed to tutorials on how to install and use them. You may also go to our main channel directly from your browser following this link
List of channels
Channels are created in order to focus work on specific projects. Also, channels have main languages and specific bots. A bot appears as a regular user in the channel, but is usually some kind of script designed for specific tasks. By clicking on the bot names, you can read more about them. All channels are hosted on irc.telecomix.org.

We try not to have any rules. However being mean, offensive or disclosing information regarded a security risk will result in you getting kicked out. Just be nice and try to contribute to the productive chaos, the data love (<3) and the goodness for all of internet.
